DAVID PALMER - INNER CINEMA
Inner Cinema At the Jakobson Gallery, in the heart of Place des Vosges in Paris, American artist David Plamer presents Inner Cinema, an exhibition conceived as a passage through interior images where painting becomes projection, memory, and sensation. Coming from Pasadena, the artist brings with him a particular light, the warm and vibrant clarity of the Californian coast that seems to permeate each of his canvases. His works appear like fragments of a silent film, suspended moments in which the pictorial material captures the gaze and slows time. Pigments are dense, surfaces alive, and color moves like an energy that transforms the canvas into an almost physical space. Within this visual universe emerge sunlit palm trees, familiar silhouettes of California, expanses of water covered with water lilies that subtly recall the legacy of Claude Monet, and the singular presence of Major Tom, the mythical figure born from the imagination of David Bowie, a solitary traveler drifting somewhere between popular culture and cosmic reverie. Yet nothing here feels like simple nostalgia or quotation. In Plamer’s work, these images become matter, rhythm, and sensation. The painting gathers gestures, textures, and layers as if each canvas were holding the traces of an inner movement. The viewer’s eye moves freely between landscape, memory, and imagination, like watching a film whose narrative remains open. With Inner Cinema, David Plamer offers a sensory experience in which painting acts as a mental screen, a place where the images of the external world transform into personal visions, revealing an inner California made of light, color, and perception.
